Player of the Month -- November 2005: Lewis Price

Last updated : 30 November 2005 By Paul Whyatt

Here’s what it might say:

Wednesday 2 November, 2005:
Derby 3 Ipswich 3

Good away point, shame we have no defence.

Wednesday 16 November, 2005:

Wales 0 Cyprus 1

On a personal note, tonight was amazing! Not only did I make my
Wales debut, but I performed incredibly well and was Man of the Match. Just a shame we lost 1-0 really.

Tuesday 22 November, 2005:

Ipswich 0 Reading 3

Tonight was my second Man of the Match in six days – okay, we may have lost 3-0 to
Reading at the Portman Road Cemetery, but again I played really well. I’ve decided Joe may have been on the sherry when he predicted top-six by Christmas.

Monday 28 November, 2005

Cardiff 2 Ipswich…1

Erm, yes, well… I saved a penalty and then prevented not one, not two but three dead cert goals after my defence trotted about like blind horses with webbed feet all night.

It was quite funny when we equalised (because it should have been about 4-0 by then) but the real comedy moment came right at the end when Koumas fell over and yet still managed to find the time to gracefully get to his feet and then score.

Got Man of the Match again after more heroics, but still we lost.

Now of-course, Lewis Price will claim November has been a bad month for him in terms of football. He conceded an average of 2 goals per game in Town’s five league matches, and was also on the losing team on his international debut.

But where his team-mates have fallen short (very short), Price has made gigantic leaps into being regarded as one of the top quality keepers outside the Premiership.

His performance against
Cardiff in front of the Sky cameras was at times breathtaking. His agility, positioning, handling and shot stopping have been spot on – and talking of spots, he also has knack for saving penalties.

Had it not been for Price,
Ipswich 'Pitch-Wanderers' would have conceded double the ten goals they did concede in November. Just imagine if we still had Marshall in goal – ooh that’s a bad thought. Ouch indeed.

But the question, as ever with quality Town players, is will he stay??

Word of advice Lewis, Wrighty left and so did Kelvin - why don't you ask them if they're glad they went?
