Lee has been on the sidelines since it was revealed he had a small tear in his hamstring after the match at Gresty Road on February 14th.
After a successful spell of fitness work this week with coach Simon Thadini, Lee resumed full training today and suffered no immediate reaction to the injury, meaning Royle will name him in his squad for Preston and give him right up unitl the Satuday morning to prove his fitness.
Royle told the club website that although he was hoping Alan could make it, he would not risk him at this stage of the campaign: "It's a bonus for us having Alan in contention for the weekend.
"He has returned to full training today and we will make a decision on him Saturday morning.
"It's an important game for us obviously and if it was a cup final, we would inject him knowing that he had the summer to recover.
"It's not though. We have 9 games left after Saturday and we have to take that into account as well as being fair to Alan.
"It's a balancing act with plenty of tings to take on board and we'll consider all that and see what he feels like before the Preston game before making a decision."
Republic of Ireland capped Lee has so far make 6 appearances and scored 3 goals for Town, since his £100k move from Cardiff in January.
