Bowditch was forced to be withdrawn just before half time in Sunday's game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and was replaced by Pablo Counago and is not certain of being fit in time to face Brighton at Portman Road.
Speaking to the Official Club Website, the England Under 19 international said: "I was very disappointed to have to come off because the manager had given me a chance from the start.
"It was a freak accident though, the injury. Jeff Whitley caught me as I cleared the ball. I've damaged some ligaments in my foot but any lower with the contact and there could have been problems with the bone.
"It's not as bad as I first thought and I'm lucky in a way that he caught me in the 'best' place on my ankle but it's too early to tell for the weekend."
