Speaking to the Official Club Website, the bosman free transfer signing from Wigan said: "I made my debut alongside Frank and he has been a great servant to Canada. He was the obvious choice to become manager, not only with the players and officials but with the supporters as well.
"He made the transition from player to coach easily and won the Major League Soccer Championship twice in three years as a boss so he was the number one candidate for the job. But we know it's going to be difficult for us to qualify for the World Cup though, it gets harder every time.
"The United States and Mexico progressed from our qualifying section in 2002, with both doing well in the finals and the standard is improving all the time.
De Vos Backs Frank
"If we get past Belize we will go into a group with the likes of Honduras, Costa Rica, who also played in the 2002 World Cup, and Guatemala and that will be a tough draw."
