Derby took the lead against Town after just six minutes when Marcus Tudgay nodded in a David Cassidy free kick to ensure that Town goalkeeper Shane Supple was picking the ball out of the net early on.

Town didn't take long to get back on level terms though, and in the tenth minute 16 year old midfielder Owen Garvan hit a powerful strike past England Under 21 international goalkeeper Lee Grant to restore parity.

Town could, and should have secured all three points in the second half, but Dean Bowditch blazed his shot against the post when he really should have scored after a good inital save by Grant.

Town Side: Supple, Synott (Craig 62), Richards, Mitchell, Collins, Hogg, Murray (Flack 46), Manning, Counago (Knights 62), Bowditch, Garvan.
