According to a Spanish source Fans favourite Counago is a target of current Real Betis manager Victor Fernandez, who would love to bring the former Spanish Under 21 international to the Balompie Stadium when the transfer window reopens in January.
Counago, one of the highest players at the club, is quoted to be keen ot open long term contract talks with the club, but because of the financial constraints operating at Portman Road, Town have been unable to do this, therefore may have to let the Spaniard go when the transfer window reopens in January to ease up some funds to purchase loanees Alan Mahon and Chris-Bart Williams.
Counago joined the club on a free transfer at the beginning of the 2001/2002 season from Celta Vigo, where after struggling to adapt to the English game in his first season, he finished top scorer last season with 19 goals. This season after a slow start Counago scored in his last two games against Wimbledon and Notts County respectively.
With Shefki Kuqi today signing on loan for 3 months with a view to a permenant move, it very much suggests that in the future there may well be a striker moving on, although fans will be hoping that Counago does not leave the Portman Road exit door, and will be staying for a lot longer yet.
Counago this week expresses his desire to stay at Portman Road, but a return to his native Spain where his girlfriend Lara still lives, may be appealing to the Spaniard.
However, as with any rumour or speculation it's to be advised that it should be taken with a pinch of salt until such speculation is confirmed by either party.
