Fish played 45 minutes of Town's game with Queens Park Rangers last week before being withdrawn due to lack of fitness and was sent back to Charlton to work on building his fitness up before being expected to return to Portman Road later this month.
However that will not be happening and a career that has seen the South African play 62 times for his country as well as for Bolton, Charlton and Lazio domestically has now come to an end.
Confirming the news this evening, 31 year old Fish was quoted as saying on the Reuters website: "I can no longer play to the standards I have set myself and therefore I feel it is time to move on."
ITFM would like to wish Mark Fish all the best in the future after his unfortunate early retirement from football due to injury.
