Town Boss Joe Royle was said to want to offer defender Georges Santos a full time contract at the club, but was told by the board of directors that he could only do so if outward movement in the transfer market took place.
At the time the only bid around for any Ipswich Town players was the one from West Bromwich Albion for Thomas Gaardsoe and Joe Royle thought it was best to sacrifice the now Danish International to secure the services of former Sheffield United defender Santos.
