"He's picked up a nasty injury has Chuck and he was very sore on Sunday," Ipswich manager Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"He was a bit better on Monday morning, there's no swelling, which is a good sign, but he's having a scan."
He added: "My physio will tell me more when I get on the bus to Doncaster."
Colin Healy is in line to replace Norris against Doncaster on Tuesday but Jewell added he would happily turn to new signing Andy Drury should his skipper's absence be long term.
"Andy's done well in training, I think it's a big step up for him, so he's taking his time but you can see he's coming to the fore now." he said.
Meanwhile former Ipswich defender Russell Osman has joined the club's academy as under-18s coach.
The 52-year-old, who has managed Bristol City and Cardiff, played over 300 times for Town between 1976 and 1985.
"It's a privilege to be offered the chance to work at such a fantastic football club again," he told the club website.
"I left 26 years ago and I've been trying to get back here all that time.
"It's an exciting new challenge to be joining the club at a time when it looks like it is going places."
