McGoldrick in Ipswich frame
Striker David McGoldrick is one of three players pushing to return for Ipswich's FA Cup third-round tie at home to Preston.
The club's 11-goal leading scorer was rested to the bench along with fellow frontman Frank Nouble and midfielder Luke Hyam for the 1-1 draw with Charlton on New Year's Day.
Mick McCarthy opted to freshen up his XI having kept faith with an unchanged side for the previous five successive matches.
Paul Taylor, Paul Anderson and Jay Tabb were the trio brought in and they will hope to keep their places against North End, while the likes of Carlos Edwards, Scott Loach, Anthony Wordsworth and Tyrone Mings will also be eyeing game time.
Defender Paul Huntington is back for Preston to give Simon Grayson a full squad to choose from.
Huntington served a one-game suspension as North End continued their push for promotion into the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-2 win over Port Vale on New Year's Day.
Grayson is keen to continue the Lilywhites' momentum so may keep changes to a minimum at Portman Road, although Jack King, recently back from a foot injury, played 90 minutes on Wednesday and may be rested.
Loanees Declan Rudd, Neil Kilkenny and Paul Gallagher are eligible to play while in-form striker Joe Garner could continue after scoring nine goals in his last eight outings.
