Grant Leadbitter gave Town a sixth-minute lead but two goals in two minutes just before the break from Andy Halliday and Scott McDonald gave Boro a 2-1 lead at half-time.
Andrew Taylor extended the lead before a Connor Wickham header and a 76th-minute Leadbitter penalty salvaged a point for the Tractor Boys.
Jewell said: "From a defensive point of view, it wasn't a very good night but from a character point of view I'm happy.
"You'd take a point all day long at 3-1 down but when it got to 3-3 I was a little disappointed that we didn't go on to win.
"We started well but two mistakes let them back in it. We looked so nervous and it could have finished 7-7. It was end to end and both teams looked like they could score. Our keeper made two vital saves at 3-1 down and their keeper made three great saves at 3-3."
