It was almost a return to the Ipswich Town of last season for the travelling support at Pride Park last night. A roller-coaster 3-3 scoreline saw the blues take the lead as early as the 10th minute, before having to come from behind twice to snatch a point, with a Matt Richards header, seven minutes from time, sealing a point for the tractor boys.
And Joe Royle was full of praise for the way his side battled on the night, "I'm proud of the players for the way in which they fought back and although we were still missing four first-team players, we are slowly creeping back to our best."
Matt Richards continued in his midfield role, scoring the vital equaliser from a Darren Currie cross. Magilton was also on the scoresheet for town, with a superbly executed free-kick,
"Matt scored a great goal and was terrific for us all night. We asked him to mark Idiakez and he did it superbly. The skipper was magnificent for us as well, he didn't give the ball away all night. He was the best player on the pitch and I just wish he was five years younger," said Royle.
The point takes the blues to 14th in the table, six points adrift of the play-off spots and with a home game against relegation-threatened Plymouth at home on Saturday, they'll be looking to take a good performance from Pride Park and convert it into all three points at Portman Road.
