It's expected that the former Sunderland boss has Watford striker Tamas Priskin at the top of his list, with Town having had a bit rejected for the Hungarian international earlier in the week. The hornets frontman scored 14 times for his club last season.
The second striker said to be on Keane's radar is Sunderland forward Daryl Murphy, after his move to Premiership side Hull City fell through. Murphy has not scored in his last 37 games for the club, with just three in the last 57. The last goal coming against Wigan in the Premier League on 9th February 2008.
Confirming the desire to bring in extra strike powr, Keane told the EADT: "I'm hopeful that over the next 48 hours that we will be adding at least one new striker to the club because that is an area we need to strengthen in, particularly as I have let a striker go.
"If you look at the goals we scored last year, 62 goals, we need more than that because goals win games. There is a good chance that the striker will be in place for the Coventry game but if not then we will focus on the group we have.
"We coaching staff are like supporters in a way because we would like the deals done yesterday but they can take time. There are valuations clubs have and personal terms to be discussed and they take time."
Town will be hoping to complete a deal as soon as possible, with only Jon Stead, Jon Walters and Conor Wickham the regular strikers left at the club after the summer departures of Billy Clarke, Danny Haynes Kevin Lisbie, Dean Bowditch and Jordan Rhodes. Pablo Counago is ruled out of Sunday's game through injury.
