Keane has come under pressure from sections of the home support after a poor run of form and acknowledged a change in approach paid dividends.
He said: "We needed more defence-minded players because we've been a bit too open of late.
"It was a good honest performance.
"There were no thrills but we rolled our sleeves up and were solid.
"We started quickly and got the three goals, then shut up shop. It was game over."
