16 year old striker Connor Wickham scored Town's first and third goals against the Shrews in the First Round of the Carling Cup to cap a sensational game and first start, which earned him praise from both managers in a game which finished 3-3 but Town won 4-2 on penalties.
It wasn't just Wickham who impressed Keane however, Town included a number of youngsters who made their full debuts, with Jack Ainsley, Reggie Lambe and Jack Colback making their first starts and Ed Upson and Shane O'Connor coming of the bench for Town.
Speaking following the game Keane lavished praise on Town's young guns via the Official Club Website: "It was a great experience for the youngsters.
"We were in a position to win the game but let them back into it, although credit to Shrewsbury and when it comes down to penalties, it's a bit of a lotter.
"The youngsters came through with flying colours and I was pleased with them. They showed a lot of determination and character to come through and we would have been bitterly disappointed to have lost out in the end.
"Quinner was outstanding for us, especially in the first-half. Colin Healy did well and Connor showed his potential again. He worked hard, showed a good attitude and put in a mature performance for a 16-year-old.
"We have to remember he's only 16 and we have to manage him properly. It might sound silly but the boy is still growing and we have to be mindful of that and not put too much workload on him."
Meanwhile opposite number Paul Simpson also felt his side had positives to take from the game: "There are so many positives that we can take out of the game and the positive for me is the way that the players stuck to their tasks.
"Ipswich are a very good side and we were disciplined, stuck to our jobs and worked really hard throughout. We've come up against a team of very good footballers, regardless of the fact that they might not be their first choice, they have shown that they can play football.
"The likes of Healy, Garvan and the young striker Wickham, and what a talent he looks, are some very good players.
"They will always be committed but you know any player that comes through Ipswich's youth system will pass the ball, will have good movement and a good awareness of how to play the game and I think they have shown that tonight."
