Keane poised for hectic January

And with Ipswich currently 17th in the Championship Keane is eager to bolster his squad.

"It is going to be a hectic time, no doubt. Most of the loan deals are up and I think we need one or two players in," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"People are going to ask about budgets, we really don't know yet, that might depend on which players we let go."

The Blues' injury concerns seem to be subsiding with striker Connor Wickham back in action and midfielder Luke Hyam returning to training this week.

Although Keane says a handful of unnamed players are carrying knocks into the Boxing Day clash with Watford and defender Gareth McAuley is not set to return from an Achilles operation until mid-January.

And with Rory Fallon, Gianni Zuiverloon, Jack Colback, Jake Livermore and Darren O'Dea's loan deals set to end next month, the Town manager is looking to get his business done as early as possible.

"Of course, particularly if we're hoping to buy one or two players," he said.

"There's no point in buying them, particularly if you're talking about a striker. If you're buying the player at the end of January you're going to miss out on three or four weeks of a player.

"But clubs will obviously play hardball at the start of January, it's all ifs and buts at the moment."
