Former Republic of Ireland international keaned was unveiled as new Town manager in a press conference yesterday afternoon, signing a two year contract at Portman Road and aims to get the club promoted sooner rather than later.

However, when the Cork born former midfielder was asked if he wanted to emulate the success of former Manchester United team-mates Steve Bruce at Wigan and Mark Hughes at Manchester City 37 year old Keane pulled no punches in his reply.

"Until an ex-team-mate of mine goes on and really achieves something, then I would not agree about them being a successful manager." said Keane.

"You need a bit more than some of those managers have achieved yet.

"Who are the good managers you are talking about? Sparky (Hughes) and Brucie have not won a trophy have they?

'They have potential and Steve Bruce has had a good season. But Steve Bruce has been manager how many years?

'Sparky has done a brilliant job at Blackburn but is facing different challenges at Man City. We are all facing different challenges."
