The Argentine suffered the knee ligament damage which is keeping him out last March in a draw against Burnley, and has faced a long road to recovery since.
Confirming the news to the Official Club Website, Town boss Roy Keane said: "Luca has gone back to Argentina for two months and I have written him off until pre-season.
"It has been tough for him. He's had a few setbacks and is making slow progress but he's had a serious injury.
"We had a chat last week and he asked if he could go home and I'm comfortable with that. For the foreign lads it can be better for them to be back home and our medical people will be in touch with him every week.
"He'll be using a clinic in Argentina and it will help him being home, not just physically but mentally as well."
