Speaking to the Official Club Website, the former Northern Ireland International said: "The young players were fantastic for us.
"It was a nervy display against Cardiff last week but that was a mock test for the boys and they used that experience to help them against West Ham.
"Matty Richards was yawning in the warm-up, he was so laid-back about it and had a terrific game for us at left-back.
"The whole defence were magnificent and it's a big achievement for us to keep a clean sheet in such a vital game.
"It's a great result for us but it's only half-time and we have a big job still to do at Upton Park."
