Speaking to the Official Club Website the former Northern Ireland internaitonal confirmed: "I thought it would have settled down by now.

"I rested it all summer but it was still a problem when we came back for training and I've had to have injections before games now.

"I had a cortisone injection a week or two back to help clear it up and there were signs that it was improving but it has played up again over the last few days.

"I couldn't train today and although I'm desperate to be involved against Southampton, I have to admit it's very painful at the moment."
