The Irish international who is currently on loan from Blackburn Rovers was forced to be substituted in Tuesday's game after just 33 minutes due to picking up the injury which was first thought to be a groin problem, however since then, Town Physio Dave Williams has confirmed it was infact a thigh strain.
"The injury is right at the top of the thigh, near the groin area. Alan will have a scan to see if he has suffered a thigh strain or whether it's just a tightness." he told the Official Club Website.
"The result of the scan will determine where we go from there but we probably won't know that until Friday. Obviously there is a doubt over him for Saturday's match at Watford."
Better news however for Town manager Joe Royle was that Matt Richards is feeling much better after suffering a blow to the face during Tuesdays game which left him with blured vision, on which Dave commented: "There is better news with Matt.
"He was groggy on the way back from Nottingham but he is much better now. He's got a bit of a headache but it looks like he will make it for the Watford trip, if he keeps improving."
