The former Sunderland defender was ruled out with a hip injury which took a large part of the season to track down, and was forced to have 2 operations to repair the damage he sustained in August.
Speaking of his progress to the Official Club Website, Makin said: "We are working with Simon Thadani, the fitness coach, and it's going okay at the moment.
"It's hard work but everything seems to be going well and it's a case of continuing the rehab and building up my fitness all through the summer.
"Looking back on last season, it was a nightmare for me and there were times when I was seriously worried about my career.
"I was so relieved when the surgeon found the tear in my hip in the second operation and now I'm heading in the right direction and want to get back playing as soon as I can."
