The former Sunderland left back who cost former Manager George Burley £1.1M to secure his services, has been missing from the Blues first team since August when he picked up the injury.
Although the former England Under 21 international made a comeback for the reserves two months ago, he was withdrawn after just 25 minutes after seeming to have a reocurrance of the problem.
Makin has seen a number of specialists to try and cure the problem that has ruled him out of nearly the whole season so far, but they have not been able to make as rapid progress as blues boss Joe Royle would have liked.
Makin will go into hospital within the next few days for the operation to have nerve released in his thigh, and it's predicted that the earliest Chris will return will be sometime in Mid February.
