31 year old Makin spent the rest of the 2003/4 season on the sidelines for Town after sustaining an injury in August that was eventually tracked down to be a hip problem after a number of specialists were involved to try and track th problem down.
Makin was offered a two month deal by Town which would be extended to a twelve month deal should the fomer Sunderland defender stay fit, Makin turned down this offer and suggested that he wanted something longer, but it seems that a longer contract may not be forthcoming.
Makin then missed training yesterday, but was perfectly in his rights to do so after his contract expired at midnight the previous day, and is now a free agent and yesterday it was rumoured that he was in talks with a Premiership club.
Derby and Coventry City are also said to be interested, but if Bolton are indeed in for the man George Burley brought to Town, it's likely that Makin will be playing in the white of Bolton for the 2004/5 season.
