The Northern Ireland international has been linked with a move away from Portman Road on a number of occasions in recent weeks after falling out of favour with Town boss Roy Keane, who also replaced the 29 year old as captain with Alex Bruce now taking up the role.
Keane however, has denied that there has been any bust-up with McAuley as reported in several media outlets, but the defender could still leave Town for one of their Championship rivals in the coming days should the interest from Middlesborough and Sheffield United reported be correct.
With the transfer window currently closed, both clubs could only sign the former Leicester City player on a temporary loan deal up to 93 days, with a view to making the deal a full one in January when the transfer window re-opens for the winter.
