The Northern Ireland international centre back has endured a poor start to the 2009/2010 season and has been in and out of Roy Keane's starting eleven this term, and was replaced as club captain by Alex Bruce last month.
McAuley confirmed to the press that Town chairman Marcus Evans tod his agent he could leave the club: "My agent got a call from the chairman who said if a club could be found for me then to go ahead."
With the transfer window now closed, McAuley could only join a club on loan with view to a full move in January, however it's unlikely town will let the former Leicester City man leave until replacement cover can be signed.
