After his latest operation he needed to visit a specialist and was so concerned about his knees that he thought he would have to give up the game.
"There were times when I thought this is it. My knees are just not going to be able to cope with training and playing every day as a professional footballer," he said.
"There were times when I thought I was not going to be able to deal with it because of the amount of problems I have had but you just have to battle through and get on with it and hope you come through and get your rewards in the end.
"It has been a recurring thing, it has not been a one-off. My knees are not as good as other people's knees which, to a certain extent, I have to live with.
"I have to manage them rather than other players who just have a one-off who can just recover and get on with it."
"It has been a long slog back to fitness but I'm looking forward to playing."
