Counago, who was the blues top scorer for the 2002/3 season, is the clubs highest paid player and has so far this pre-season failed to show any glimpses of form in the three matches he has took part in so far.
However Town boss Joe Royle told the Ipswich Evening Star that the striker would be given his chance on Tuesday: "At his best Pablo can be a big asset to us. He will have a chance to show us at Oxford what he can do.
"He looked a bit sharper when he came on against Aalborg and hopefully Pablo can help get us back on the goal trail after a couple of barren matches. He played his part last season when we were the division's top scorers."
