The former England International joins defender David Wright in being the first confirmed names to have not been offered a new contract out of the players who have deals that expire at the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to the EADT, life-long Town : "I have great memories of this football club. It's dear to my heart, but I've got to move on. I don't know whether I'll be involved on Sunday but I don't need to be on the pitch or anything to show the fans how I feel about them.
"The fans have always been very positive to me. They are dear to me, as is the football club. I'm an Ipswich Town fan and there's nothing I'd like more than to see this club in the Premier League where it belongs."
Richard Wright also admitted he was disappointed to see David Wright go in addition to himself: "I am disappointed, don't get me wrong, but someone like David Wright has been in the team on a regular basis and has performed well this season, so for that to happen is devastating."
In addition to the two Wrights other players out of contract in the summer include Shane O'Connor, Pim Balkestein, Ed Upson, Jack Ainsley, Liam Trotter, Reggie Lambe, Troy Brown, Devann Yao and Ian McLoughlin.
The club are likely to make a statement on the futures of those who will be staying and those who will be leaving later today.
