Speaking to the Official Club Website, former Manchester City, Oldham and Everton boss Royle said: "If all goes well, we will be bringing in a defender on loan from a Premiership club for the season."
Royle also has admitted that he still would like to bring another striker to the club, despite indicating this week he was having second thoughts about doing so: "I would also like another front player here and I am confident of signing a player on loan for that role, possibly next week."
Speaking of the chances of Spanish striker Pablo Counago leaving Portman Road, Royle added: "We have had no offers for Pablo at the moment and on his best form, I would be sorry to lose him."
