It was last night reported that The Addicks had made a £3M bid for Town's academy product, and their manager Alan Curbishley was very keen to add Bent to his forward line options to join former Ipswich players Matt Holland and Hermann Hreidarsson.
However this morning Town boss Royle has insisted that whilst there has been a bid for his striker, the club have turned it down.
"I can confirm that the Club has received a bid from Charlton and that bid has been rejected. That is as far as the situation goes at the moment." he told the Official Club Website.
It remains to be seen if Charlton will up their bid in their quest to add Bent to their forward line before the transfer window closes, or that they will turn their attention elsewhere.
