Royle joins shortlist

Royle, who has been out of management since his sacking from Maine Road after relegation from the Premiership in May 2001, has become the bookmakers' favourite as chairman Daivd Sheepshanks draws up his shortlist to replace George Burley as Town boss.

"I understand there is a shortlist and I have applied for the job," said Royle.

"I believe I am on that shortlist.

"I would be excited at the prospect of taking charge of a young and exciting team. We will see what happens but none of the money bet has been mine."
