Murphy netted 22 times for Irish side Waterford United in the past campaign and broke through to the Republic of Ireland Under 21 side with his impressive displays in a season which has just finished.
Several English sides including Manchester City are said to be showing an interest in the youngster with Irish side Cork City and Scottish Premier side Livingston also said to be in the hunt.
Speaking the Official Club Website of the weeks trial at Portman Road, Royle said: "Daryl is with us for a week and we'll have a look at him in that time.
"Our chief scout Colin Suggett has been informed about him and he's over here training with the squad now to see how he gets on."
Any chance of Murphy getting some second string action for Town has been blown however under Irish League rules: "Unfortunately the rules and regulations state that he can't play for us in reserve team matches, though." added Royle.
