Town after Goater?

Many sources this morning report that Joe Royle is looking at signing Shaun Goater from Reading on a three month loan deal.

The Bermudan striker famously worked with the Town boss at Manchester City where he scored 103 goals in 212 appearances. This campaign the 33 year old has scored 8 goals in 22 appearances.

Royle is a big fan of Goater, having signed him for City from Bristol City for £400,000 in 1998. He has also called him a “gentleman of soccer” following the 1-1 draw between Town and Reading at Portman Road on the opening day of the season.

Reading boss Steve Coppell has refused to deny the rumours saying “A private conversation between managers should remain private", suggesting contact has been made between the two clubs.

Further to the Goater rumour, there are suggestions that Town may make another move for Alan Mahon, ironically a long-term target of Reading.
