The current Town Player of the Year has been linked with moves to various clubs including Stoke City over the summer, and a statement from a club spokesperson yesterday did not entirely rule out the prospect of the frontman leaving the club.
Walters is currently on two weeks compassionate leave with his wife to attend the birth of his second child. The couple's first child was born with complications. However the length of time Walters has been away has led to a number of fans believing there is more to this than meets the eye.
Confirming that there was nothing to hide, Town Chief Executive Derek Bowden told the EADT: "There has been no offer for Jon Walters and no transfer request from Jon and he will back on Monday."
Town Boss Jim Magilton also attempted to squash rumours about the future of the former Chester man: "Jon Walters was given two weeks to be with his family for domestic reasons. I got the full backing of the football club in allowing Jon to spend this time with his wife.
"He will be back with us on Monday with a view to play in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night."
