"The way we played first half I can understand the fans' reaction," said The Blues boss.
"We were shocking first half. We started sloppy and couldn't get going.
"We showed a bit more desire second half and when we equalised I could only see one winner, but then Stoke caught us and I'm very disappointed.
I have told the players they have to show more desire. They need to be stronger and we need tougher players out there.
"We can't play against First Division teams thinking we can pass it around at our own pace which was the case in the first half. We need to show more passion and desire which we did second half.
"These players need to have a hunger in the belly from the start, and not wait for a half-time rollicking from me to push on.
"No wonder the fans were frustrated because first half we weren't at the races."
The Ipswich players have a quick chance to show Burley what they can do when they take on Brighton in the re-arranged Worthington Cup tie at Portman Road on Tuesday night - the game having been brought forward by one week because of Town's participation in the UEFA Cup next week.
