The former Town Loanee returned to Blackburn before signing for Wigan, and youngster Ian Westlake who has took over Mahon's role, admits that he was very much a great help for him.
Speaking to the Green 'Un, Westlake admitted: "Alan and I worked together a great deal when he was at the club. We spent time together on the training pitch and he helped me with skills like timing my runs into the box.
"Alan was very good at drifting out to the wings and finding space. He taught me that it was important to find the gaps between defence and midfield, rather than always looking to find gaps behind defenders."
"I'll always be grateful to Alan for the help he gave me. I'm making good use of it now."
