"There's an awful lot more to come from Connor and I think that's the beauty of him," Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"He's shown in flashes great potential and ability, but he's a young player so he's going to have peaks and troughs."
Jewell added: "But he's progressing and he's only going to get better."
Wickham, who has represented England at under-21 level, gave a glimpse of his talent with a superb solo effort in Saturday's 3-0 win over Sheffield United.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell
But Jewell is equally as keen for the youngster to show his predatory instincts.
"The goals that really matter are the ones he gets in the six-yard box and he'll get them," Jewell said.
"But it's also lovely to have the ability to pick it up in your own half and go around three or four people to score too."
Jewell has been using Wickham on the left-wing in recent games, a position he will not be used to, but the Town manager is confident the change will improve the striker's game.
"He's playing in a position that's a bit strange to him at the moment," he explained.
"But he's working to his maximum when we've got the ball and when the opposition have the ball.
"And it will make him a better player in the long run, it's another string to his bow."
Meanwhile Jewell says he has players lined up to replace Jason Scotland, should the striker complete
a loan move to former club Swansea.
Regardless of whether the Trinidad & Tobago international departs, Jewell is looking to add depth to his side.
"We've got a few options, we've got one or two ideas, a few irons in the fire, so we'll see," he said.
"We are looking to strengthen the squad and give the lads that are already here a help."
