17 year old Wickham signed a professional contract with the club earlier this month after previously being on academy terms, and was subject to a large amount of specualation before signing the deal linking him with a number of Premiership clubs.
Last weekend the local press in Sunderland revealed that Steve Bruce's side could be preparing a summer bid for the 17 year old and this weekend the story has again come to surface with suggestions that on loan strikers Daryl Murphy and David Healy could be offered to Town as part of the deal.
In addition Bruce has confirmed to the Evening Chronicle, that he would be interested in the player if he was to become available: "We're aware of the lad, he's a very talented boy.
"But if he became available I'm sure there would be plenty of other clubs, not just us, who would like to be kept in the picture."
