"I don't really read the papers, I just see it if it comes on the news or TV or if my mates from school tell me," the striker told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"I know what's going on and it doesn't really affect me or faze me, all I'm doing is playing my football."
Wickham is only one goal short of last season's tally of six, with 13 games of the season remaining.
And in January the England Under-21 forward confirmed his commitment to Town by signing a new deal until 2013.
It's a different role to being upfront and down the middle but I've scored a few goals from that position
Ipswich striker Connor Wickham
"I'm just letting my football do the talking," he added.
"I just want to play as much football and score as many goals as I can, off the pitch isn't anything to do with me.
"I'm happy here, I'm playing week-in week-out and scoring goals.
"I signed a contract just a couple of weeks ago for another few years and that's the way it is at the moment, I want to keep playing football at Ipswich Town."
Since Paul Jewell's arrival as Ipswich boss two months ago Wickham has found himself used as a wideman rather than a centre forward.
But it was from the left-wing where the young talent netted his first hat-trick in senior football - in a 6-0 win over Doncaster in February - and he is happy to continue in the position.
"It's a different role to being upfront and down the middle but I've scored a few goals from that position," he said.
"You get more of the ball and there's more of a responsibility.
"For me it's just getting on the ball and showing everybody what I can do."
