The Spaniard’s 83rd minute strike sealed a 2-1 win against a Coventry side who were left to rue the chances they missed during a dominant first half performance.

Coventry player-manager Gary McAllister curled an early free kick wide, before his through ball put Jamie McMaster through only for TownÂ’s loan keeper Paul Gerrard blocked well with his legs.

Against the run of play Ipswich went ahead from their first corner in the tenth minute, Darren Bent heading home Jim Magilton's delivery.

The visitors were denied an equaliser after 16 minutes when Garry McSheffrey crossed for Richie Partridge who produce a flying save from Gerrard.

Youssef Chippo headed a McAllister corner over, before McSheffrey cut inside andt curled a right foot shot over.

Dean Gordon and Mo Konjic both fired wide and Gerrard saved to deny McMaster, while at the other end Alun Armstrong didnÂ’t get enough on a close range header before Jamie Clapham shotd over after a long Hermann Hreidarsson run.

In a quieter second half it was 20 minutes before either keeper had to make a meaningful save, Fabien Debec diving to block a powerful Bent drive before foilin- the same players side foot volley.

Coventry levelled after 74 minutes when Makin gifted possession to substitute John Eustace, who fired a 20-yarder beyond Gerrard.

Ipswich hit back hard and regained the lead seven minutes from time when Debec spilled Magilton's free kick and Counago pounced for his 10th goal of the season.

Magilton could have made the final margin even more emphatic with a sublime chip on to the bar after Counago's clever back heel.
