Ipswich, who had not won a League game until last Tuesday, coasted to victory and should have won by a wider margin.
After a very quiet opening, Ipswich went ahead in the 22nd minute when Alan Mahon whipped in a fine far post cross and Alun Armstrong dived in to score.
Jermaine Darlington then cleared a dangerous cross before Armstrong could pounce but Town made it 2-0 in the 26th minute.
Substitute Richard Naylor, on early for the injured Driss Diallo, bundled the ball home after Darren Bent and Armstrong had helped on Mahon's cross.
Wimbledon had shown little threat but only a fine challenge by Georges Santos stopped Patrick Agyemang collecting a Naylor back pass.
Bent failed to make contact with a precision Matthew Richards cross before the Dons got one back on the stroke of half time.
A weak Naylor back header was collected by Agyemang who slotted home through the legs of ex-Wimbledon keeper Kelvin Davis.
Town skipper Jim Magilton hit the bar with a dipping volley soon after the break, and he then curled a free kick into the side netting.
Agyemang wasted two good chances for Wimbledon, before Ipswich got their crucial third goal in the 68th minute, Bent firing in a Mahon cross at the far post.
Substitute Pablo Counago, who had hit the post seconds earlier, bagged his first goal of the season from the penalty spot to round off the rout with nine minutes left.
Fellow substitute Dean Bowditch was fouled by Malvin Kamara and Counago coolly slid home the penalty.
To confirm it was not to be Wimbledon's day substitute Dean Holdsworth had a header cleared off the line by Richards in stoppage time.
