Burnley 4-2 Ipswich - Manager Reaction

Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle said he was very much angry with his side: "It was an abysmal first half and we just weren't in it. We got to 3-2 and then had good chances to equalise, the fourth goal was academic really as we had so many men forward.

"But you can't give teams a two-goal start. It was poor marking again, especially for the second goal from a corner where he has a free header, a luxury we never seem to get. No one reacted from the keeper's save for the first goal. And we were leaden-legged all over the park.

"Matt has needed a rest. He has done outstandingly well when he has been in. I put Drissa there but it didn't work, particularly when we had to try and go and win the game.

"I then took Drissa off, not because he was particularly worse than the rest but he is not going to get you a goal or create anything for us, so it was a tactical change. It worked better with Jermaine at right back and the second half was at least even."

However, Royle seemed like he could not accept Town were outplayed, and decided he would like to blame the coach journey: "We are desperate for the break we looked tired first half. I'm not making an excuse but six hours on a coach doesn't help."

Meanwhile Clarets boss Stan Ternent was delighted with his sides win: "We still need to win a third of our games, but this was a massive result for us and a deserved one too.

"We never do things simply here and there are parts of our game that need to improve

"But the way the lads are having a go is very pleasing and it could have been a lot more comfortable had we been awarded the penalty we should have had when Glen was fouled with the score at 3-0.

"It was nervous at the end, but no-one could deny us our right to the win."
