Gills boss Stan Ternent said after the game: "Ipswich are a very good side and we had more clear cut opportunities to score today. It wouldn't go in for us but I am happy with a point.

"I have had a lot of promotions in my time and never had a relegation and I don't intend to start now.

"Last season was a nightmare for me at my previous club (Burnley) but I managed to keep them up. But this would be a bigger achievement because I had a full season last year whereas I haven't here."

Willie Donachie, Town's assistant boss said: "We knew it was going to be tough the way they have been playing and the results they have been getting.

"We didn't play well ourselves so we were lucky to get a draw but we have been unlucky many times.

"I thought Gillingham's finishing was very poor with the chances they had. If they had a good finisher we would have been in trouble."
