Ipswich manager Joe Royle said: "I don't think it was a fair result. Our goalkeeper has held his hands up for both goals, but other than that he hasn't had a save to make.

"It was a hard game, they set their stall out and challenged us to break them down and we couldn't.

"Our forwards are not having the best of times at present, but we keep giving people a goal start which isn't helping us at the moment.

"I rate Kelvin (Davis) as the best keeper in this division and that is the first time he has cost us a goal with his kicking in two years here. He has been fantastic for us though this season and there will be no recriminations towards him.

"We haven't had a break in the last two games around the goal, but we didn't threaten enough today. We looked a little shot-shy, but we have been free scoring for the last two years."

On next week's trip to Wigan, Royle said: "All our games are crucial at the moment. This was a crucial game here today. It's a big game, but so was this. We're still level top, but third on goal difference, and that's not too bad."

Meanwhile QPR boss Ian Holloway said: "I felt we needed to be impressive and that we might face a backlash from Ipswich.

"In the first half they moved the ball sharply, but my lads worked hard and we actually had three or four good chances on the break only to score a bizarre goal.

"I actually almost missed the first goal as I was still shouting for a penalty and had turned away, but I turned around in time and once Paul Furlong got it on to his left foot I knew he would score.

"We have really improved since the start of the season. The boys showed belief in what they can do and didn't wobble as we have done towards the end of one or two other games.

"We looked a team and a unit and we needed to be as I feel Ipswich are a fantastic team. We need a bit more quality and a better final ball at times, but we can make our players better or get better ones in.

"I still think we need another win to be safe and when we get that I will take all the lads out for a party. I am delighted we have got the chance to move forward and it is exciting for the future of QPR."
