Town Striker Dean Bowditch, who was a second half substitute for Darren Bent, admitted his side was out-played: "The early goal killed our confidence really; and for a time they outran and out-passed us.
"At times we thought we might nick a goal and get back into the game. We started moving the ball about much better in the second-half but there were no end products.
"Luck wasn't on our side today and their second goal, with three minutes to go, killed us. We said afterwards that it's been and gone now; we're still top of the table. We've got to go to Plymouth on Monday and get three points there."
Meanwhile Dutch right back Fabian Wilnis felt his side just were not good enough on the day: "We've done really well so far this season and this was a one off; our first defeat at home so we mustn't be too worried about today's performance.
"The first goal was really unsettling; we weren't at the races today. West Ham were sharper and brighter. We have to get this game out of our system and go in to the next match against Plymouth in a positive frame of mind."
"We were all disappointed with our performance today because we know that we can do much better than that."
