Ipswich Town boss Joe Royle was pleased with his sides result: "I'm delighted. In the first half we were terrific. We had our obligatory ten nervous minutes towards the end, but I'm not as nervous now as I might have been last season.
Royle had special praise for his strikers, but also insisted they must learn to play for the team for 90 minutes: "The front two ran them ragged, and had we got a second goal it would have been much easier. They stopped passing to each other in the second half, and we need to have a word about that.
"Shefki took his goal well, but he missed one from about seven inches later on. He should have squared that one to Darren Bent, but he has now got nine goals in 21 games this season."
The win sent Town top of the league, something Royle was pleased with after Town having poor starts the previous two seasons: "It's nice to be top of the table at this stage of the season, whereas previously we had been playing catch-up. We were solid today, if not spectacular."
Meanwhile Brighton boss Mark McGhee was none too pleased with the peformance of referee Trevor Kettle: "I thought we deserved to snatch a point today. Their goal was fortunate and I felt we had two stonewall penalties turned down.
"There is no way the first was a booking for Danny Cullip, that was a ludicrous decision. On the second, Leon Knight stayed on his feet, when in the past he has been criticised for going to ground. He got his shot in, but I still felt it was a penalty.
"Last year we were basic, even agricultural. I'm glad of the progress we have made. We're now a football team, but we still lack bodies.
"We're playing to our strengths, passing the ball upfield and they didn't really cause us any embarrassment. I am satisfied with the performance, but disappointed with the end result. We kept it tight and are difficult to beat
