Town striker Dean Bowditch, who score the winner admitted he thought he was to blame for Gillingham's: "I felt responsible for the first goal so it was great to end up with the winner. It was probably the best goal of my senior career but the three points are the most important thing though, not who scores the goals."
Meanwhile stand-in skipper Jason De Vos said whilst he was generally pleased, Town's defending is still not up to scratch: "Pleased with the result. Youngsters did well attacking wise but we need to brighten up a bit more defensively.
"Kevin Horlock did a great job for us in front of the back four and was always looking for the ball. Always important to get a good start and now we are up and running and looking forward to Wednesday and Forest."
Richard Naylor, who brought the sides back on level terms with his first half header, was also disappointed with the manner in which Town conceded: "I was a bit disappointed with the way we conceded the goal in the first-half but the three points were very important to us.
"There are still things to sort out but we looked a bit more solid and it's early days yet. Obviously delighted to get the goal."
