Ipswich boss Joe Royle joked after Town's latest comeback win: "Why can't we go 3-0 up? Sometimes we do things the hard way!
"Their goal was unstoppable. I was thinking about the injustice of it, but we kept going and all credit to the lads. We deserved to win. They had a great start, Kelvin made a great stop to keep it at 0-0 and I thought we had the best of the rest of the first half.
"They were very dangerous on the break, with the pace of their front two. They caught us on the hop at times as we went a bit gung-ho."
Speaking about Town's equaliser through Richard Naylor Royle added: "It was a great delivery by Darren Currie. He gives us an edge in front of goal, a little bit extra. For the second goal, it wasn't Benty's best game for us - but he only needs one chance."
With Town playing catch up this time last year, former Everton boss Royle was happy to be top of the pile this time around: "To be top at Christmas is fantastic but there are a lot of minefields in front of us, but we are averaging two points a game, so I'm going to enjoy my Christmas dinner."
Meanwhile Wigan boss Paul Jewell admitted the better side won: "They played with a bit more desire than we did tonight. In the first 20 minutes we started well but then they came into the game, they pinned us back and we didn't protect the back four enough.
"It was a fast tempo game and we didn't do enough in the second half, we didn't pass it well or keep enough possession. To have taken a point would have been a good result. We won't win many games playing as we did in the second half. It's come as a wake-up call to us."
When asked about Leighton Baines 35 yard stunner to open the scoring to send his side ahead, the Wigan gaffer added: "It was a tremendous strike by Leighton, for his first goal for us, he took it superbly well."
