Town boss Joe Royle was delighted with his front pair: "The front two never give less than 90 minutes effort. Darren looked lively and has been terrific in training this week.
"There was a case for giving him a rest, but also, his pace gives people problems. The goals will change him, you could see after the first he was more confident and that will do him the world of good.
"Coventry played well, and if they had played like that all season then my mate Reidy (Peter Reid) might still be in a job.
"It was typical Ipswich today. We started slowly, went a goal down, inched our way back into it and equalised before half-time. Then we went ahead, gave a penalty away straight after, got in front again and instead of shutting up shop we were trying to score four, five or six.
"I think this was our most important win of the season, as although we weren't at our best, we still managed the win and three goals."
Meanwhile Caretaker Coventry boss Adrian Heath said: "We at least deserved a draw and I'm devastated to lose the way we did.
"For long periods of the game I thought we were the better team, so it's particularly hard to take. I can't ask any more of the players, but this is a results business and that is why we are in the position we are.
"It's getting to the important part of the season now and we're down to the bare bones. The new manager - me or whoever it is - needs to be appointed soon so they can bring in some new players asap."
